Task 2: Auditory Imaging
Instruction
Project2-Auditory Imaging
Our task is to write a script based on the stories we are interested in, and
distinguish between foreground and background sounds in the script. We cannot
use dialogues, and we are not allowed to use our own voices. I really like the
scene of the cabin in the snow, which gives people a very warm feeling, so the
script I chose is also about the cabin. The following is the script I wrote.
This story tells the story of a lonely hunter returning home on a winter
night. After entering the cabin, a series of events occur. Although the wind
and snow are howling outside, the hunter feels warm and safe in the cabin and
is ready to spend the cold night in peace.
Here are some photos of my fantasy scene:

Storyline
I imagine myself as the protagonist of this script, what sounds will I hear when this story happens?Wrote the script from my imagination
After I wrote the specific script, I separated the foreground and background sounds, which made it easier for me to link the audio. I started editing through my script.
I searched for a lot of audio on the Internet, downloaded them all into a file, and then screened them later.

I put several long-lasting and important audios, such as the sound of wind and snow, on tracks one and two. I used audio files such as foley sound effects. These sound effects were layered on different tracks to give the audio a shared sense of space and detail.

When I was looking for sounds, some audio was not very obvious. I could highlight the rhythm of the sound and make the overall sound clearer and brighter by adjusting the loudness of the high-mid and high-frequency parts while keeping the low-frequency stable.

To make the sound effects more precise, there will be sound effects that need to appear repeatedly, each clip is short and closely arranged, and I will add automation effects to some of the audio to fade in and out.

I used effects like reverb for footsteps (both human and reindeer) to give the audio a natural sense of space and modulated echo without being fuzzy, reflecting the sound of walking in an open environment.

To make the sound of snow outside the door sound muffled, I used an equalizer to reduce some high frequencies to make the sound sound more muffled. When mixing the sound of snow with the sound of the door closing, I adjusted the volume and fade-in to make the sound of snow gradually become smaller as the door closes.
First version
This week, I got feedback from teacher Razif. After listening to my audio, he said that the first half of the video was a bit messy because there were too many sounds, but it was okay overall. I need to modify the first half of the audio to reduce some ambient sounds.I made changes.I reduced the footsteps ahead, the ringing of the reindeer bells, the howling of wolves in the distance, and the creaking of the wooden door.

Reflection
This project is very interesting. It immerses the audience in a specific environment through sound. My goal is that the audience does not look at my script and clearly understands what story I am telling. They also need to pay attention to the rhythm of the entire audio. It cannot be fast or slow all the time. There must be fast and slow, and the sound progress must be orderly. Pay attention to the rhythm and structure of the audio to ensure that it is fascinating and attracts the audience's attention.Using time shifts and managing tempo changes, the audio becomes immersive, guiding the listener's imagination without the need for visual cues. This approach not only enhances the narrative, but also encourages active listening, making the experience engaging and alive. Through this project, I have deepened my understanding of how structured sound progressions can tell a compelling story.
