PROJECT 3: ANIMATIC STORYBOARD PRODUCTION

1. Objective: The objective of this project is to produce a 1-3 minute animatics storyboard based on your approved short animation. 

2. Requirements: The animatic storyboard production must be based on the proposed story ideas developed for Project 1.

We will create a one to three minute animated short based on the storyboards and story setting slides developed in Project 2.I first make thumbnails according to the requirements, add text to explain what the picture is about, I make it on procreat, as long as the story can be easily understood.I drew thumbnails in procreat, using lines to describe the scene

Storyboard 

Format: A4 size with landscape orientation

Next, we had to make a storyboard, A4 size, using arrows to guide the action and camera work, using black and white tones to show the depth in the composition. I started to focus on the detailed pictures corresponding to the storyboard, but I adjusted some pictures according to the pictures of the storyboard, added some empty scenes and transitions.

I started preparing the demo by storyboarding, and I finished it on procreat.

At the beginning, I explained the background of the whole story. The whole story takes place in a forest village and lasts for a long time. In order to attract people at the beginning, I drew a bird passing through the village and introduced the protagonist through the zoom effect.

By zooming in to show the exterior of the house, the camera will naturally show the interior of the house.

Then, the protagonist appears. The protagonist is a young man in a village whose main business is fishing. The background of the protagonist's story is explained through the painting of fishing scenes.

I drew these two pictures to show the protagonist's daily life and the environment he lives in, laying the groundwork for the character's background and advancing the story through visual narrative. And began to prepare for the appearance of the supporting characters.

Through the appearance of supporting characters, start a dialogue with the protagonist and continue to advance the plot，When introducing the supporting characters, I added a main scene to my picture. The picture goes from a long shot to a close shot, slowly zooming in, and then slowly zooming out from the close shot of the supporting character until the overall character of the supporting character is revealed.

The story begins to move towards the climax, which will take place in the cave.

My clip requires drawing the process of a stone falling. I searched online for how to show the process of an object falling from top to bottom. This can be done by drawing vertical lines of different sizes. Different degrees of carelessness will also create a more pronounced falling effect.

 

When it is dark in the cave, the shadows falling on the characters are particularly important. I increased the contrast between the characters and the background, which can make the characters stand out more and weaken the background, so that the audience can pay more attention to the protagonist.

When a character is nervous, his eyebrows will gather in the middle and rise to form an "eight" shape. I drew an upward angle in this picture, and the direction of the lines can better bring the tense picture into play.

Finally, the core of the story is presented. I use the effect of dispersing clouds and fog to show the truth of the story.

After all the images were completed, I exported the mp4 video in procreat, and then processed and further edited the sound in AU. I searched for suitable sounds on the Internet and put them in to match the video images. Some sound effects also need to be properly adjusted through wave filtering and equalization. I need to add a fade-out effect at the end of the sound effect to make the following sound effects more suitable.

Reflection

Finally, I finished this final assignment in the last week. For me, it took a long time and the workload was huge. It took me two weeks to complete this assignment. For me, hand-drawing would be faster, so I chose to use procreat, but everything was more difficult than I thought. The character's movements and expressions are crucial. What kind of expression will reflect the emotions you want to express at the moment? It took a long time to start the first scene, but this is normal. At the very beginning, confidence is the most sufficient. Doing things well at the beginning also lays the foundation for confidence in the future. When drawing the scene, in order to make everything go right, I need to adjust it frame by frame, but my skills are still limited. I have a better picture in my mind, and I want to make the picture better, but there are some places I can't do it. I hope I can study harder in the next semester. Completing the last step of the animation is also related to the sonic course I am studying. I can do dubbing effects in au. I hope I can look at more references and learn from other people's pictures in the next semester.
