Project

Proposal

In our first class, Mr. Mike briefly introduced the projects we could choose. Then, we were asked to form groups of 6-7 people. I decided to form a group to discuss food aid with Kieran (group leader), May, Ma Pei yuan, Sun Qing, Wu Ziyang, Lin Zhiyi

Their main struggle right now is trying to reach out to the communities that need the food aid help due to a lack of advertising and good exposure, Also a language barrier of malay  and english.

We had a meeting to discuss everyone's tasks.

Scenario Study

Research "food aid" and learn about similar activities.

To answer the "why", "how" and "when", we will study our part based on the following photos

Each of us summarizes a key point: where, how, why, education method, publicity method, target audience

Then we can extract the key points from the target audience research and summarize them. After that, we will create the persona because it will be easier to do after the summary stage.

Minor Project challenge:

Despite the availability of nutritional awareness outreach activities, community participation remains limited. There is a need for innovative and effective design strategies to better engage diverse community groups and encourage their active involvement. This project challenges TU Design students to explore our current impact initiative as a case study and develop a design proposal that enhances public interest, accessibility, and participation in such nutritional awareness programmes.

We are ONLY conducting surveys and interviews to get research data to study and analyse it. After completing your survey or interviews, we then enter the DEFINE stage, where we form the insights and then create the PROBLEM STATEMENT. From the PROBLEM STATEMENT, we will form the 3 HOW MIGHT WE QUESTIONS. These 3 HOW MIGHT WE QUESTIONS are what we use to think of the solutions, whether it is a website, app or some other digital communication solution.

We got feedback from teachers and made changes to the character design

There are three personas because there are three target audiences that can benefit from Food Aid and Taylor’s Impact Lab:

  • Malnourished children (these little cuties aged 4-12 are the main target of their work) - completed by May and Keaira (purple personas).
  •  Parents (they don’t know enough about food nutrition and think that food nutrition is the privilege of the rich and they can’t afford it, so we are working to change their mindsets) - completed by Sun Qing, Lexie and Ma Peiyuan (red personas).
  •  Elderly people (older people) - completed by Ziyang and Jiayi (orange personas).

We analyzed the characters wrong at the beginning, so we analyzed them again. We will redo this part.

I was responsible for designing Elderly people, and I changed her age from 72 to 65. I removed her education part, but there were no other problems.

This is the part I did

Our question did not fit the scope of the project, which dealt with malnutrition or unbalanced diet, not food insecurity or hunger. We changed the scope of our study again.

This is our questionnaire. We need to collect 100 surveys and prepare for our later analysis of the answers.

Then we create a proposal slide

The creative conception part is divided into five parts:

  •  Problem statement
  • How to solve the problem (How might we)
  • Core idea (Big idea
  • Brand positioning statement
  • Brand value

The art direction part is mainly our next visual plan, including:

  • Logo
  • Font design
  • Photography style
  • Poster concept and wireframe
  • Animation disassembly and final product

While finishing the slides, we animation majors need to start the next assignment.

The team leader gave us some advice

  • An animation showing which vegetables are cheaper to buy
  •  An animation showing how to get nutrition from these cheap vegetables
  • Some simple images showing what meals you can make with these cheap ingredients
We are going to make three separate videos. Think of the idea as a step-by-step guide through three videos, but we don’t need to make it complicated, just pleasing pictures and simple instructions are enough. The videos must be made in Malay.

Here are the animation concepts for the three stories I wrote.I follow the structure: Problem → Solution → Suggested Action

Each video only needs 15-20 seconds, or 25 seconds,I was in charge of the first video, Ma Pei yuan was in charge of the second video, and Sun Qing was in charge of the last video. We divided the work and then we started drawing the storyboard.

Then I made a suggestion. For the first video, I think the main colors can be: dark brown + dark blue + gray-green, because it is busy and tired. For the second video, the main colors can be orange, off-white, grass green, etc., which are more harmonious. For the third video, the main colors can be orange and reddish brown, and finally give people hope.

Next, with the color reference in hand, We make some mock ups based on the storyboard with the colors

We are going to make a storyboard for the TikTok version, and I found references again

Completed storyboard

Then I made a tiktok version

According to the suggestions of the group leader and teacher, I further changed

My style is not unified, I will unify the style

But the fourth and last pictures still need to be modified. The colors need to be unified to make this feel like one space.

I finally finished my changes and the first video is out

I need to make an official trailer and promotional posters based on the products made by team members.

I made many versions in AI and finally it came out
