Week 9

Storyboard is the first step to visualize abstract ideas. It bridges the gap between "concept design" and "actual production". Through a series of static frames, creators can plan the rhythm, transitions, key shots, etc. of the animation in advance, greatly improving production efficiency and avoiding rework.

  • Extract visual nodes from the script: first understand the script or narration content, then extract the key pictures that need to be shown.
  • Draw sketches or collage reference pictures: the pictures do not need to be exquisite, but the composition, action direction and visual atmosphere must be accurately conveyed.
  • Add actions, timelines and captions: the notes for each frame clearly explain the transition method (such as fade, slide), dubbing or sound effects, which helps the team understand the intention.

Week 10

What we want to achieve is not simply "overlaying images", but to make it change perspective, angle and position with the movement of the real camera. This requires the use of:

  • 3D Camera Tracker
  • Null Object
  • 3D Layer

Project 3 - Channel Identity

This project is a continuation of the theme of our previous project II. The trailer should include the style you want to show the most to attract the audience. We want to make a fast-paced video style that also belongs to the general sports brand promotion feeling.

We interspersed the product with dynamic text and graphics, and we searched for video style references online

Shao han and I spent a lot of time thinking about how to present the video. We watched a lot of related videos and planned a sketch. We used our 3D knowledge to make it feel like the characters were moving forward. This inspiration also came from the beginning of this semester when the teacher asked us to find our favorite videos on Pinterest. We planned to use the same effect.

Then we started planning the storyboard, we drew the storyboard, Shao Han and I discussed it many times. Although we had disagreements, we were satisfied with the final storyboard.

Here are some screenshots from the making of Ae

Reflection
Since this project is similar to Project 2, I had the opportunity to explore more ideas and think deeply about the details. We discussed a lot, so it took a long time. Because there were many ideas, they collided and needed to be polished and combined to make the effect better, but I still enjoyed the process and I am glad to have completed it. I learned different After Effects techniques and how to integrate 2D animation and 3D elements together. This is a useful skill I can use in the future.
